K-pop has been in the limelight for quite years now. Each and every K-pop Idol group has made its own way in the industry. K-pop has become a truly global phenomenon thanks to its distinctive blend of addictive melodies, slick choreography, and production values, and an endless parade of attractive South Korean performers who spend years in gruelling studio systems learning to sing and dance in synchronized perfection.
Despite the fact, there are so many K-pop Idol groups only BTS made its way through people's hearts. But did you ever wonder Why? Why only BTS and no other K-pop group? Well, read the full article to know what makes BTS so special.
1. Lyricism
One of the major reasons why BTS songs are so special is because of their art of writing. Each and every song that they have written is so meaningful right in its depth. When it comes to music, the process of discovering the meaning of a song, of piecing together what the artist is trying to convey, is exciting.
The language that is more abstract can be honest in a way that bluntness simply is not. There are those moments that feel like a revelation, when you say to yourself, “Oh. I know exactly what they mean” or “That’s how I feel, too”.
This is mostly observed in this type of writing in the singer/songwriter, folk, and alternative genres. Their songs are a place for the depth, complexity, and figurative language that is associated with poetry in today’s pop music as well. Right from the start of their career, they've been known to write complex lyrics.
Every song of theirs is a reflection of their own stories and not fiction just to please their fans. Their lyrics are raw, which comes from their own life experiences. The struggles they've faced at each step of their life is what attracts people towards them. The way their lyrics feel like home to everyone speaks volumes.
BTS, through their lyrics, and often, through their music videos, weave the most diverse set of analogies and metaphors that span the worlds of art, history, philosophy, and psychology. On top of that, the storylines of their music videos, and the connecting bridges between their own songs, have created extensive mythology.
2. Choreography
It’s the norm for K-pop choreography to be so on point that idols typically put in a potentially harmful amount of practice. Less generous characterizations have often pegged dancing in the Korean pop industry as “robotic” and “mechanical”.
But BTS consistently resists those descriptions as their approach to dance is both precise and colourful. The dance line of BTS majorly includes- J-Hope, Jimin, and Jungkook. But while RM and Jin often joke that they’re not good dancers, they manage to master the group’s steps every time.
Jin has always been determined to give his best on stage so he usually gives his all while practising. They give their all to present their best on stage.
3. Their Message Of Self Love
When you think of pop music, there’s no denying that love is the thematic bread and butter of the genre. BTS have certainly released their fair share of songs focused on romantic love. But when they launched the Love Yourself era (alongside their Love Yourself Campaign with UNICEF) they began exploring the multiple facets of what love can mean.
Falling in and out of love is one perspective often sung about, but more than that, BTS looked at the value we attach to ourselves through the love that we receive from others. How some of us are more likely to give love than to accept it, or to see it in ourselves.
This is what makes BTS’ music feel all the more necessary. It fills a void for fans seeking reassurance from the music they listen to, all the while managing to have fun. BTS’ music is often about confronting failings and feelings of doubt.
There’s a common phrase used by Korean idols when giving thanks to fans during award shows particularly, which roughly translates to “though I am lacking...”. Much of BTS’ music is finishing that sentiment with hope and positivity. Though I am lacking – I am proud of who I’m becoming. Though I am lacking – I love myself.
BTS- Love Yourself Era
The Love Yourself era, consisting of the albums Love Yourself: Her, Love Yourself: Tear and Love Yourself: Answer, stands out for being remarkably innovative lyrically and musically. During this period, BTS’ music drilled into all the little doubts that resided in our minds.
In “Fake Love”, they explore what it is to change yourself for love, wearing a mask and moulding yourself to others’ expectations. In “The Truth Untold”, they mourn the person they’ve become and how easily they can transform and hide behind that mask.
But further along, there comes “Epiphany”, and the self-awakening of valuing yourself. When Jin sings, “I’m the one I should love in this world/shining me, this precious soul of mine”, he’s reminding fans to think this way of themselves too.
4. BTS- UNICEF(United Nations) Speech
In 2018, BTS was invited to the United Nations, and RM gave a speech about the impact of the Love Yourself movement. In it, he said: “Today, I am who I am with all of my faults and all of my mistakes. Tomorrow, I might be a tiny bit wiser and that’ll be me too. These faults and mistakes are what I am, making up the brightest stars in the constellation of my life. I have come to love myself for who I am, for who I was, and for who I hope to become”.
That transition into self-assurance is best seen in their music with “IDOL”, where BTS proudly claim their mantle as top idols. Suga and RM rap: “You can point your fingers at me, I don’t care at all/Whatever reason you have to denigrate me/I know what I am/I know what I want/I never gon’ change/I never gon’ trade”.
It’s a battle cry for the members, but more so it’s an encouragement to their listeners and their lingering thoughts of self-doubt. Their boldness has come from the fans backing them every step of the way, and BTS wants their fans to empower themselves too.
Perhaps the best way to display BTS’ impact in encouraging self-love is in the song, “Answer: Love Myself”. BTS are singing it to fans, but it’s a direct mirroring of how fans feel for BTS, and these lyrics resonate: “You’ve shown me I have reasons, I should love myself”. BTS Love Yourself Campaign has been counted as one of the most successful campaigns.
5. Stage Presence
When it comes to being an artist, especially in the K-pop industry, you need to have a very strong stage presence. When in concert, you're vibe must take your fans along with you.
Luckily, each and every BTS member has a great stage presence. Starting from the eldest member to the youngest, they all shine when they are on stage.

BTS & ARMYs
BTS and ARMYs have the most special bond in the entire K-pop as well as any music industry. A major reason why BTS is so popular is that they really have an army behind them i.e. their fans. BTS's relationship with ARMYs is very pure and strong. ARMYs have always supported Bangtan through thick and thin and will do so till the end.
