Tokyo Revengers is one of the most popular anime of the year. Adapted from the manga of the same name, the anime created quite a lot of buzz even before its release date. As expected, fans weren't disappointed with the first season and it received high reviews.
The story has a unique approach to what we are used to seeing so far. Unlike the cliché of heroes vs villains in an action anime, Tokyo Revengers focuses more on plot twists and time travel. The story revolves around the 26-year-old Takemichi Hanagaki who works part-time in a supermarket.
Takemichi is the perfect example of a burned-out youth who doesn't have any hobbies or friends. He resents himself for being an underachiever and is depressed most of the time. While he was leisurely watching the television, he saw the news of his ex-girlfriend, Hinata Tachibana being killed by the popular biker gang named Tokyo Manji.
Toman, short for Tokyo Manji Gang is notorious in all of Tokyo for illegal business, drugs, and so on. Seeing the news of her death, Takemichi went down a memory lane and started analyzing where everything in his life went wrong.
As he was reminiscing in the train station, someone pushed him down the platform and Takemichi somehow traveled 12 years in the past when he and Hinata were still dating. After a series of events, Takemichi went back to the future and met Naoto, Hinata's brother.
Naoto explained why he knows about Takemichi's time traveling and that he is a trigger to his powers. Since then, the duo swore to create a future where Hinata would be safe and sound. They planned to start by infiltrating the Tokyo Manji Gang and keep Kisaki and Mikey from ever meeting in the past.
Since Takemichi is the central character of the series, fans are always eager to know more about him. His love story in the series is also the best and one of the reasons why the series is so popular. Here, we will discuss the relationship between Takemichi Hanagaki and Hinata Tachibana.
Takemichi Hanagaki and Hinata Tachibana
Takemichi was popular during his second year of middle school as he was a delinquent. It was also the time when he was proposed by Hinata to date her. Takemichi agreed to that but broke up with her soon after graduating and left town. He didn't keep any contact with her for over a decade and only remembered her when he saw the news of her death.
As he was pushed down the platform, he didn't remember any of his friends or family but Hinata was the exception. After traveling back in past and being beaten by bullies, he talked with child Naoto about how much he loved her. He shook hands with Naoto and traveled back to the future.
Takemichi swore that he would protect Hinata no matter the cost. When Mikey and Draken came to visit him in school, Hinata slapped Mikey thinking they were bullying Takemichi. At that time, Takemichi wasn't close friends with the two so he was terrified due to their reputation but still stood up for Hinata and was ready to take the hit for her.
Mikey and Draken were instantly impressed by Takemichi's resolve and the trio became close friends soon after. After traveling back in the past, Takemichi always regretted breaking up with her and the fact that he didn't cherish her enough. However, now he values her more than anything and for him, she is more important than anyone.
In the first future he created where Hinata was alive, he was incredibly happy and nervous to meet her. However, after watching her die in the car, Takemichi was ready to save her at any cost. But Hinata knew that her injuries were too severe and she would die soon.
As the car was about to blow up, he hugged Hinata after entering it and told her that he had always loved her and will continue to do so. Hinata was happy from his confession and pushed him out of the car before dying from the blast. Watching her die in front of him, Takemichi was devastated and swore to become the head of Toman so no one will be able to hurt her.
After the Black Dragon Arc, Takemichi created the best future for everyone. He was about to marry Hinata but had to travel back to save Mikey. This shows that he will never break up with her again and the two will eventually end up together no matter how many times the future changes.
