Tokyo Ghoul Season 1 Episode 2 | Plot Synopsis
Picking off where we left off, the 2nd episode of season 1 begins with Touka stuffing Kaneki’s mouth with some fresh human meat, straight from the corpse of a newly dead man. Kaneki continues to refuse to accept himself as a ghoul and deems them as monsters. Touka is naturally annoyed at this. She berates Kaneki for invalidating ghouls as mere monsters as she continues to knock the living daylights out of him.
Touka is interrupted by the sudden appearance of Manager Yoshimura. He takes Kaneki to Anteiku, the cafe at which he and Touka work. Anteiku is a Cafe only for appearances. In reality, it is an organization/safe house for ghouls of the 20th ward.
At Anteiku, Yoshimura offers Kaneki some coffee. He then proceeds to explain Ghouls can only consume coffee aside from human meat. He also gives Kaneki a packet of meat and tells Kaneki he is always welcome for more.

After Kaneki leaves, Touka asks Yoshimura why he helped Kaneki out. She is then shocked to learn Kaneki was turned to ghoul because of what went down between Rize and him. Yoshimura believes Kaneki may slowly be turning to a ghoul.
At home, Kaneki struggles with his intense hunger and craving for human meat. Suddenly, Rize appears as a hallucination, enticing Kaneki, encouraging him to eat the meat. Kaneki almost gives in, but he is interrupted by Hide’s text asking him to come to school.
The next day at school, Ken Kaneki is greeted by an enthusiastic Hide. Hide invites Kaneki to meet an upperclassman who turns out to be Nishiki, a ghoul Kaneki previously crossed paths with.

Nishiki invites the two of them to their home. Kaneki is surprised to see Nishiki blend in so well amongst humans. Suddenly out of nowhere, Nishiki attacks Hide. Kaneki at this point is too weakened from hunger to do anything about the situation. Nishiki tries to get him to admit that Kaneki is only around Hide so he can later eat him. Kaneki vehemently denies this. After tossing him aside, Nishiki starts kicking Hide’s face, trying to enrage Kaneki.
Kaneki tries to fight but is immediately overwhelmed and receives some major blows. After being kicked around for a bit, Kaneki starts getting flashbacks of his friendship with Hide. This prompts Kaneki to finally release his Kagune, launching an all-out attack on Nishiki, almost killing him.

Though Kaneki is able to save his friend’s life, he is overcome by intense hunger. Rize’s illusion appears again before him, tempting him to eat Hide. Kaneki loses it completely and gives in to his hunger.
All of a sudden, he is interrupted by Touka. They have a scuffle and Touka apparently takes him to Anteiku after knocking him out.
Kaneki wakes up at Anteiku with the taste of blood in his mouth. Yoshimura drops in to check on him and takes him to a resting Hide in the other room. Kaneki is relieved to see Hide safe, however, he is quickly overcome with anxiety as he remembers he almost ate his best friend a while back.
Kaneki feels completely alone, stating he belongs neither to the human world, not to the ghoul one. Yoshimura reassures Kaneki by telling him, he can make his place in both worlds. He invites Ken Kaneki to join them at the Anteiku, as they leave Hide’s room. Now alone, Hide opens his eyes and smiles.
Elsewhere, Koutarou Amon and his partner, Kureo Mado are investigating the binge eater and the Masked man case. They find a major clue as Mado spots the pliers Rize stole from the Masked man and then threw away.
