Is There a Love Triangle B/w Fruits Basket Characters?

The story follows an orphan girl named Tohru Honda who, after a series of very unfortunate and traumatizing events, meets the Sohma family. The rich, somewhat noble-like Sohma family is hiding a family secret though, one that must remain hidden at any cost for them.

Twelve special members of the extended Sohma family are possessed by an animal of the Chinese Zodiac. Each of them will temporarily turn into their animal form when they are either weak, stressed, depressed, or hugged by a person of the opposite sex who isn’t one of the twelve.

Tohru learns this mystical transformation is a kind of curse which is causing the twelve to suffer in their own ways. With nowhere else to go, she is taken into the aboard of three male members namely Yuki, Kyo, and Shigure Sohma.

While here, she continues to get entangled in their family problems as she attempts to help them. Mainly a love story, a triangle is formed between her, Yuki, and Kyo, both of whom are her classmates.

The Top Fruits Basket Characters

Tohru Honda

Tohru Honda is the leading lady & one of the most important Fruits Basket Characters, who has no special powers or abilities whatsoever.

Despite her terrible circumstances, she is kind, generous, hardworking, optimistic, happy-go-lucky, selfless, and ever so polite.

As such, she would smile and uplift others even through the darkest of storms and seemed to know exactly what to say to soothe her friends’ souls. Being a bit of a dunce and airhead, some things go right past her but it all adds her lovable character which is both endearing and persistent.

Her early life was molded mainly by her mother and afterward her closest two friends whom she treasures beyond bounds. To know more about Tohru, please read Tohru Honda Says Hi to Kindness !!

Yuki Sohma

Yuki Sohma is Tohru’s classmate and the local most attractive guy in High School. He is reserved, talented, socially awkward, and lacking in self-esteem,  who tends to isolate himself. It all stems from his troubled past with the Zodiac Curse, being the Zodiac Rat.

Kyo Sohma

Kyo Sohma is the Zodiac Cat, who is considered an outcast in the family. He is hot-tempered, hyperactive, loud, competitive yet charismatic. Not as coveted as Yuki is, he works hard to better himself and be accepted into the family.

Shigure Sohma

Shigure Sohma is the Zodiac Dog, who is the supposed adult of the household, he is a free-spirited author. He is shown to be dirty-minded, lazy, irresponsible but it is all an act to hide his manipulative nature.

Akito Sohma

Akito Sohma is the head of the family and is considered the “God” of the Chinese Zodiac. Owing to a very messed-up past, Akito is very frail, impulsive, short-tempered, abusive, selfish, and somewhat of a tyrant.

Being the cause of angst and suffering for many of the Zodiac members, Akito justifies it all as part of the Curse that is just meant to be. A character that becomes more pivotal as the series continues, Akito is a miasma of mysteries and considered one of the best Fruits Basket Characters.

These are the main characters that make up the Best Fruits Basket Characters categorization. They are accompanied by a multitude of other interesting Fruits Basket characters including the remaining Zodiac members each having their own unique personalities and troubling circumstances.

The story shows how Tohru slowly by surely connects with all of them and ultimately saves their souls.
