One Piece: Sabo, No. 2 of The Revolutionary Army

Sabo is the chief of staff in the Revolutionary Army, making him only second to the leader Monkey D. Dragon. And, also the sworn brother of Monkey D. Luffy and Portgas D. Ace. Sabo has blond curly hair and has a distinctive scar over his left eye. Sabo, as a kid and as an adult, wore a black hat which has a pair of blue goggles wrapped over the band. As Luffy said, Sabo is a nicer older brother in comparison to Ace. He was a diplomat between the three and helped both Ace and Luffy to get along. Similar to Ace and Luffy, he also wanted to travel the world and document his pirate life.

Sabo As a Nobleman

Born in the Goa Kingdom, unlike other noblemen, Sabo does not act like them. He also does not consider himself as one. In contrast to the rest of the nobleman born in the Goa Kingdom, he does not put upfront nor does he look down on the less fortunate citizens.

He rejects the value held up by the snobbish nobles to the point that he feels ashamed to be part of it. “Smelling worse than Trash Mountain, as they are people rotten to the core” is what he use to refer to the nobles. Sabo had the intention to leave the kingdom at the age of seventeen because at the age of eighteen a child is properly recognized as a noble.

Sabo’s Forgotten Memory

After being captured by the noble family, he heard their plan of burning down the Gray Terminal, the place where Ace and Luffy lived. Sabo went to alert Ace and Luffy only to find the entire place ablaze. He decides to run away from the noble and he escaped in a stolen fishing boat.

Unluckily, his boat comes in front of the ship of World Noble Saint Jalmack. Even though he sailed out of the noble’s way, Jalmack shot down Sabo’s boat. Sabo tried to fan the flames caused by the first shot but ended up getting injured in the second shot.

Injured badly by the explosion he was on the verge of death. Monkey D. Dragon rescued him and took an unconscious Sabo to the ship of the Revolutionary Army. Later, after his recovery, Sabo seemed to have lost his memory and could not even remember his name.

When the army suggested returning him to the noble family, he immediately refused. The only thing he remembered was the feeling of not wanting to return to his parents no matter what. While, on the other hand, Luffy, Ace, and everyone else believed him to be dead.

Sabo Returns

Having no memory of Luffy and Ace, Sabo naturally did not participate in the Summit War of Marineford to save Ace. But upon discovering the news of Ace’s death, he regained his memories causing him to become grief-stricken. The shock caused him to become unconscious from a high fever.

Learning that Luffy survived the war, he decided to protect his little brother however and whenever possible. Before arriving in Dressrosa, Sabo visited Ace’s grave and left sake and three cups as a tribute to the day when the three became sworn brothers.

In Dressrosa, Sabo meets Luffy and asks his permission to eat Mera Mera no Mi, the devil fruit power that Ace had. He wished to inherit Ace’s power. Luffy, though, became angry because he believed Sabo to be dead, later realizing that it was Sabo alive and in front of him, hugs him tight and gives him permission to eat the devil fruit.

Currently, he is in search of Kuma in the Wano Country Arc.
