Bakugo Katsuki, From Hostile to Hero!

Bakugo Katsuki is the second lead character of My Hero Academia.

He is a childhood friend of Izuku Midoriya as well as his rival.

Katsuki is known as Kacchan among his friends; Midoriya gave him the name.

His hero name is Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight.

Bakugo Katsuki is slim but muscularly built with average height.

He has fair skin with spiky ash-blond hair and sharp red eyes.

Katsuki has an intimidating appearance which Best Jeanist took the liberty to change.

When Katsuki was interning under Best Jeanist, the Fiber hero attempted to change Bakugo’s looks.

Once known for his hostile attitude and explosive temper, Bakugo undergoes a transformation throughout the series that sees him evolve into a true hero.

Quirk: Explosion

Bakugo’s Quirk makes use of the nitroglycerin from his sweat and ignites it on his hand.

This allows him to create explosions on his palm.

His explosions become stronger the more he sweats.

But with overuse of his Quirk, his forearms start to ache.

Katsuki has a stronghold of his Quirk.

He has developed the application of his Quirk so that he can use the explosions to fly through the air and navigate over his opponents.

Katsuki can attack his opponent in mid-air without giving them time to react.

Bakugo has cultivated his power to the point that he can continue his explosion long enough to break through the stone-hardened body of Eijiro.

Bakugo Katsuki’s Journey

Bakugo at the beginning was as an arrogant and short-tempered person.

Moreover, he is an aggressive person with an explosive personality.

He has been hostile toward Izuku Midoriya ever since his Quirk developed.

Katsuki often, in the past, looked down on Midoriya despite being childhood friends due to Midoriya being Quirkless.

However, his pride receives a blow, and everything changes after Katsuki join U.A. High School.

At U.A. he experiences defeats and faces people with more powerful Quirks.

One of his defeats comes at the hand of Izuku Midoriya.

Since then Bakugo has become less antagonistic, though he still has his explosive personality.

Bakugo Katsuki is often caught up in his pride which makes it difficult for him to accept his mistakes.

However, he listens to the advice given to him by his mentors.

Thanks to All Might and Best Jeanist, he has improved in accepting his shortcomings.

Although he won’t say it out loud.

Katsuki prefers to reflect on his mistakes and weakness in solitude.

As a child, Katsuki never faced loss and this watered his obsession with victory and his pride.

Since joining U.A. and facing villains, Bakugo came to realize his imperfections.

Leadership Quality of Bakugo Katsuki

Bakugo Katsuki is considered a natural-born genius.

Additionally, Pro Heroes acknowledge him to have the potential of becoming a Pro Hero someday.

Bakugo has matured enough that he has befriended his classmates.

Though he still lacks in social life and prefers to stay alone for most art.

Katsuki’s pride is immense and he prefers to work alone and not rely on others.

However, when performing as a team he demonstrates leadership qualities.

His teamwork is also improving now that he has started to let people get close to him.

But Katsuki is merciless as a leader.

He is only satisfied when the mission is complete with guaranteed victory.

His Inspiration

Katsuki’s inspiration just like Midoriya’s is All Might, the Symbol of Peace.

However, for him a hero never stops fighting regardless of the threat.

A true hero, must always win.

Bakugo was also offered by Tomura Shigaraki to join the League of Villains because of his arrogance.

Bakugo Katsuki despite his pride and conceitedness is unfaltering and has a determined desire to become a hero on par with All Might.

Lastly, the most important factor is that Bakugo Katsuki is a highly skilled DRUMMER.

He took lessons for drums in the past as mentioned by Kaminari Denki before the U.A. Festival.

Katsuki is also seen playing drums in the performance arranged by their class.
