Kanao Tsuyuri is one of the most important supporting characters in Demon Slayer. She is also a Demon Slayer in the Demon Slayer Corps’. She was the successor of Shinobu and also an adoptive sister to the Kocho siblings.
First Appearance
In her first appearance, Kanao Tsuyuri was very hesitant and quiet. It was most probably due to the abuse she faced previously.
Her past had a major influence on her life. Kanao Tsuyuri was not even able to make her own decisions.
However, the Kocho sisters were really helpful to her. Kanae gave a coin to Kanao. As we flip a coin to decide what to do, that coin worked the same way for her as well.
Yet, Kanao still showed comparatively fewer emotions. Still, after that, she acknowledged what the Demons did to Aoi, Kiyo, and Shinobu’s loved ones.
Kanao Tsuyuri started to hate the Demons even more. When Kanao didn’t decide for herself, Shinobu told her to behead directly without a second thought. But, slowly, Kanao developed her own zeal to fight for the best.
Zeal to Fight
However, Kanao fought Shinobu and Kanae’s desire and attempted her Final Selection on her own. She grew in her own strength.
Although, Kanao recovered she still relied on her coin to decide.
Kanao Tsuyuri, however, behaved normally when Tanjiro bid her farewell. She was just so casual while he wished for a conversation.
Yet, Tanjiro was still able to make her talk. Soon, Kanao was back to her own senses. She started to communicate better.
With time, Kanao became more open and expressive. When Tanjiro recovered, Kanao sighed with relief.
But, during her fight against Doma, Kanao Tsuyuri unexpectedly took the effort to show her own wrong side to herself. She was devastated due to the death of her sisters.
Kanao was so much into her anger that she showed deep threats verbally. Kanao also exhibits intense dedication and great respect for her family.
She wept for the first time in the aftermath of Shinobu’s death. Kanao also shared her desire to return home with her elder sister.
Aftermath and Kanao Tsuyuri’s Emotions
Kanao was later seen to have fully restored her capacity to freely articulate her feelings. She tried to make her own decisions during the final fight against Muzan Kibutsuji.
Kanao’s rage and fear at the Demon progenitor are evident in the fight as she and her fellow Demon Slayers take him on. Particularly after the fight is over, she manages to display emotion.
Kanao Tsuyuri demonstrated her true affection and cared for both Tanjiro and Nezuko after seeing the latter’s futile efforts to reach out to her now Demonized partner.
Even to the point of losing her one remaining eye in an attempt to save him.
