Jujutsu Kaiesen 0 Movie Trailer Breakdown | Things You Might Have Missed

It’s finally here! The Trailer for the Jujutsu Kaisen movie , Jujutsu Kaisen: Volume 0 is now out. The movie is set to be released on 24th December 2022 in Japan. Here’s us breaking down the long-awaited trailer for Jujutsu Kaisen: Volume 0. The trailer dropped on 4th November 2021 and has Jujutsu Kaisen fans pumped up all over the globe. Let’s get into the thick of it.

Jujutsu Kaisen Trailer Breakdown

Geto, Nanako, Mimiko and Larue

The trailer starts with Suguru Geto’s voice-over shots of Tokyo and Kyoto. He announces the release of the Night Parade of Hundreds of Demons. In the subsequent shot, Geto is seen challenging Jujutsu Sorcerers with 3 of his underlings in the background.

He is dressed in the same kimono as seen in the show with long hair. The three behind him, Mimiko Hasaba, Nanako Hasaba and Larue are members of Geto’s original group.

This is followed by a shot of Gojo discussing Rika Orimoto, a special grade curse with endless amounts of cursed energy. Satoru Gojo is seen covering his eyes with white bandages instead of his signature dark blindfold.

Gojo Satoru

We get a flashback of a young Rika and Yuta promising to marry each other when they grow up as they exchange rings. However, what follows is a bloodied shot of a dead Rika.

The trailer includes Gojo Satoru announcing Yuta will be joining Jujutsu Technical School in a similar fashion to how he interacted with Itadori Yuji at the beginning of Jujutsu Kaisen season 1.

This is followed by a young Maki confronting Yuta as to why he joined Jujutsu Technical School? Between shots of Yuta brandishing his katana and his childhood memories of Rika, he vows to solve Rika’s curse showing the promise ring on his finger.

Rika as Vengeful Spirit

The following shots contain scenes from an apparent battle in two different locations with the background score “The Only Way” by King Gnu. Gojo is fighting cursed spirits somewhere in Tokyo while Panda, Inumaki and Yuta go up against Geto.

The last shot is Yuta calling about Rika as the cursed spirit appears behind him. This is a pretty tight trailer that introduces us to major players and events of the story without giving much away.

What Can You Expect

Gege Akutami created the manga series Jujutsu Kaisen 0 and wrote and illustrated it. From April to July 2017, it was serialised in Shueisha's Jump GIGA magazine under the title Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School.

Following the release of Jujutsu Kaisen by Akutami in 2018, the series was retroactively renamed Jujutsu Kaisen 0, making it a prequel.

Rika Orimoto

The anime film adaptation by MAPPA and directed by Sunghoo Park will premiere in Japan in December 2021. The protagonist for Jujutsu Kaisen: Volume 0 is going to be Yuta Okkotsu.  It is set before the events of the Jujutsu Kaisen series.

As hinted in the trailer, Yuta is tormented by a powerful cursed spirit who happens to be his childhood sweetheart, Rika. Gojo Satoru takes him up to Tokyo Jujutsu High where he meets his fellow classmates, Maki Zenin, Toge Inumaki and Panda.

The decision to make volume zero into a movie instead of leading the Jujutsu Kaisen series with it seems to be a thoughtful one. For one thing, the length of volume zero is perfect for a movie adaption.

Additionally, the next season of Jujutsu Kaisen is probably going to focus on Gojo’s backstory followed by the much-anticipated Shibuya Arc.

Yuta Okkotsu

The Shibuya arc is going to be a game-changer for the series. It is therefore important that all the key players are set carefully and beforehand. While volume zero will introduce us to Yuta Okkotsu and his dynamics with Maki, Inumaki, Panda and Gojo, it will also show us the Night Parade of Hundreds of Demons, a much talked about event in the story.

We will also get to see more of Suguru Geto, one of the primary antagonists of the story. This along with Gojo’s backstory will prepare us for the atomic bomb that is the Shibuya arc.

All in all, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is a must-watch for the viewers of the show and we hope it is going to be worth the hype the trailer has created.
