Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is no doubt one of the top 5 anime I have ever seen.
It has a well-designed plot filled with complex emotions and the concept of truth is simply brilliant.
Some might say that the show is overrated, but according to me, it is praiseworthy and Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood Ending is something that definitely needs to be talked about.
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood Ending
The show focuses on the protagonists Edward and Alphonse Elric who are regarded as prodigies.
They violate the biggest rule of alchemy by trying to resurrect the dead mother.
This human transmutation costs Edward the older Elric brother to lose his left leg and leaves Al almost dead if not for Ed who performs another sacrifice which was his right arm to bind his younger brother's soul to metal armor.
The brothers search for a way to restore their bodies back to normal and travel to various places in the country to learn about the solution.
This is when they learn about something called the philosopher’s stone but they discard the use of it as soon as they learn the truth about it.
What Exactly is Truth?
Truth is portrayed as an empty dimension, devoid of anything. We see truth as a reflection of whatever character is currently visiting the realm.
It is like a white silhouette of whoever enters this realm, in some instances, it possesses some of the features he’s borrowed from the visitors.
For example, it appears before Edward wearing his arm and leg and appears before Alphonse as Alphonse himself.
The forms that it takes on are not his own but the reflections of the desire of the people in front of it or currently present in the dimension.
Truth reveals that it is known by many names such as the Universe, World, and God.
In this series it is supposed to be the supreme being of the universe, it oversees all the alchemy being performed and ensures that the laws are followed.
It even goes to the extent of punishing people who do not follow the laws of alchemy.
It takes most of the internal organs of Izumi Curtis as the punishment for performing human transmutation which strips her of the chance of bearing children ever.
In the end, as punishment Edward gives up alchemy in exchange for his younger brother’s body.
It is the symbolization of God, one who has complete knowledge of this universe, although seen as ruthless by some, it is very fair and just in delivering the punishments to everyone.
It seems to be omnipotent, immutable, eternal, and omniscient.
To different human beings on the earth, the truth might seem to be a relative concept but in the series, it is beautifully shown how it is absolute and there is no escape from punishment no matter what your intent is for breaking the rules.
