Erased: Episode 11 Review | 'Future'

The second last episode of the series Erased aired on 18 March 2016. The title of the episode is Future.

Erased Episode 11 Summary

Erased episode 11 starts with a monologue by Yashiro. Yashiro narrates how he drowned the hamsters. He kept only one hamster which trod on its dead mate’s bodies to survive. Since sixth grade, Yashiro wanted to exert power and dominance over those who are weak. Furthermore, he talks about the story “the spider’s web” and how he can relate it to real-life humans. The opening sequence shows that Satoru’s mother works at a convenience store and goes about her mundane daily routine. It is the year 2003 and Satoru wakes up from a coma looking extremely pale and weak.

He is immediately taken to the hospital by his mother. His mother cared for him daily and it was due to her efforts that he kept on growing even though he was in a coma. Satoru does not have his memories of before slipping into the coma. So, it is not clear how he got out of the car. Most probably, Yashiro pulled him out himself. As soon as the news of his recovery spreads, his childhood friends Kenya and Hiromi come to visit him. Kenya has become a lawyer whereas Hiromi has become a doctor. Then, Kayo comes to visit him. Kayo got married to Hiromi and became a mother to a baby boy named Mirai.

Kayo reveals that she and his friends do feel guilty to move on ahead in their life while he was in a coma. Kenya and Sawada San comes to visit Satoru again in order to know about the identity of the killer. Satoru quickly becomes friends with Kumi who is a leukaemia patient. In the midst of his recovery, Yashiro pays him a visit and reveals that he is a part of the city council now and goes by the name Nishizono. Ahead of Kumi’s surgery, Yashiro takes Satoru to the rooftop of the hospital. On the rooftop, Yashiro confirms that Satoru has regained his lost memories back.

Conclusion

The last episode ends with Satoru’s reel of memories tearing away, which hints at him being dead. But, Satoru remains in a coma for fifteen years and once he wakes up, the pieces of reels attach themselves. Now, how did he survive after drowning remains a mystery but my bet is on Yashiro who saves him. And Kayo is married to Hiromi. From the storyline, Kayo and Satoru deserved to stay together. Overall, it is a better episode than its previous episode.
