Demon Slayer is one of the most popular anime and manga series of this decade. The series is a perfect blend of action, comedy, thrill, tragedy, suspense, and even horror. After the release of the record-breaking movie, covering the Infinity Train Arc, fans are eagerly awaiting its second season which will release next month.
The upcoming season will reveal many secrets about the Sun Breathing Technique and Demon Slayer Mark. We will also learn more about Nezuko's powers and some new changes in her. So, it goes without saying that Tanjiro's powers will be revealed to at least some extent. Till now, what we have seen is but a fraction of his real powers.
The series has already introduced us to all the Hashiras in the first season, though the true powers of most of them remain a mystery. They are the 9 strongest demon slayers in the entire Demon Slayer Corp. The word "Hashira" refers to a pillar in Japanese. Associating the demon slayers with the word Hashira explains the fact that that they are the ones holding the organization together.
They are highly respected for their job since they are assigned the most difficult tasks, which include battling with the 12 Kizuki. It is only expected with Demon Slayer fans to see their favorite protagonist, Tanjiro at the top someday. Many of us were hoping for him to succeed Giyu as a Water Pillar or even become the first Sun Pillar ever. Here, we will find out whether or not Tanjiro ever becomes a Hashira.
Tanjiro's Demon Slayer Mark
Tanjiro always had a scar on the right side of his forehead. It was the result of saving his brother from a hot kettle. However, the fact that his father and the original user of the Sun Breathing Technique, Yoriichi had the exact same marks changed things.
It was then revealed that the scar was an inherited trait that all Sun Breathing users possess. In the Hashira Traning Arc, just before the final battle with Muzan, Tanjiro trained with the other Hashiras. While the Hashiras were all preparing to have demon slayer marks appear on them, Tanjiro showed excellent results as well.
The scar on his forehead was replaced with a permanent flame mark, and when he activates his Demon Slayer Mark it grows in size, reaching past his eyebrows. This serves as proof that he had become a "true" demon slayer by mastering his inherited Sun Breathing Technique.
Will Tanjiro Ever Become a Hashira?
The role of a Hashira would have benefitted Tanjiro in many ways. The main reason he became a demon slayer was only to find a way to cure his younger sister, Nezuko, and turn her back into a human. This seemingly impossible goal kept him going even in the face of extreme danger and near-death situations. However, the fact that there has never been a case of a demon turning back to a human was brought to light.
Soon after Tanjiro's encounter with Muzan, he met two unusual demons, Tamayo and Yushiro. Tamaya is a doctor who treated humans and Yushiro accompanied her as her assistant. After hearing Tanjiro's story, Tamayo promised to help him in his endeavors, but the only requirement was for him to keep sending her blood of demons that are closely related to Muzan.
The fact that the only demons who met the mark were the Twelve Kizuki. As we mentioned earlier, only the Hashira were assigned to fight the strongest demons. So, had Tanjiro been strong enough to be a Hashira, he would have provided demon blood to Tamayo with much ease.
However, Tanjiro never became a Hashira despite being strong. This is because, by the time he became strong enough to be a Hashira, the final battle with Muzan had already started. After the defeat Muzan and every demon, the Demon Slayer Corps had no reason to keep on going and was disbanded soon after.
