Anime has taught us friendship and the power of Nakama. The reason to protect and fight for comrades is a common theme in the anime world.
There are so many characters who showed the meaning of true friendship and how best friends can change your life. Some anime characters have redefined the meaning of “Best Friends” and their friendship is worth protecting and cherishing.
12. Sakura and Tomoyo (Cardcaptor Sakura)
Sakura Kinomoto and Tomoyo Daidoji are the definitions of best friends. Perhaps one of the earliest anime series, Sakura and Tomoyo are friendship goals.
Both Tomoya and Sakura consider each other best friends and love taking care of each other selflessly. They cheer each other, protect each other and confide their concerns and worries. There is no secret between them and they share everything.
11. Ash and Pikachu (Pokemon)
Starting on the wrong foot, Ash and Pikachu are textbook examples of enemies turned into besties. Ash and Pikachu are inseparable, and no matter how many times Team Rocket tried to steal Pickachu, no one can separate their bonds.
Pikachu will always find his way back to Ash. As much as Ash is concerned about Pikachu, Pikachu equally takes care of him, and together they are a power-packed duo who have won several victories.
10. Kakashi and Guy Sensei (Naruto)
Kakashi Hatake and Guy Sensei can be best summed up as eternal rivals and best friends. Kakashi has acknowledged Might Guy as his friend and true rival. He acknowledged that as a Taijutsu user, Guy is better and is equally unmatched by his power.
Kakashi has admitted the strength and speed of Guy and in some ways, he is better than him. On the other hand, Guy sensei regards Kakashi as his rival and best friend. They are best friends in Naruto and there’s no denying that.
9. Vegeta and Goku (Dragonball Z)
Vegeta and Goku from Dragonball Z are frenemies. They were enemies who later became friends. They are the last Saiyans who fought together against common threats.
Vegeta displays genuine admiration when Goku became Super Saiyan for the first time. Goku has considered Vegeta a good friend. They are rivals and best friends who have respect for each other.
8. Langa and Reki (Sk8: The Infinity)
Langa Hasegawa and Reki Kyan from Sk8: The Infinity are best friends and rivals. They have a genuine love for skateboarding and often support each other.
Langa cherishes the skateboard Reki made for him and never uses any other skateboard. They fight like any other normal friends would and did make-up. Their friendship is heart-warming and they always cheer each other up.
7. Chad and Ichigo (Bleach)
Ichigo Kurosaki and Yasutora Sado (Chad) are best friends in Bleach. Both of them were treated like an outcast because of their different appearances. Chad is of Mexican descent and Ichigo has orange hair.
They were looked down on and often picked up by bullies. Ichigo and Chad have a deep bond, blind faith, and unconditional trust. Chad is very loyal to his friends, especially Ichigo.
Due to his promise to his late grandpa, Chad never fights back. When bullies picked on Chad and even kidnapped him, Ichigo saved him and his precious coin. They made a pact to protect each other and became best friends.
6. Shun and Chizuru (Kimi to Boku)
In Kimi to Boku, although everyone is good friends, Shun Matsuoka and Chizuru Tachibana are best friends. Chizuru is often the object of anger of Kaname Tsukahara and it’s Shun who always defends Chizuru.
Shun is equally friendly with everyone, and he’s the friend everyone wishes to have. When Shun was concerned because of his younger brother Fuyuki, Chizuru is the first person who wanted to help him. Chizuru may seem like an oddball, but he is always concerned about his friends, and Shun in particular.
5. Saiki and Nendou (The Disastrous Life of Saiki K)
Nendou Riki is the first person who approached Saiki Kusuo. Saiki and Nedou became best friends and never once has Saiki thought of Nendou as a nuisance. Nedou often tags along with Saiki and they have ramen after school.
Saiki is unable to read Nendou’s mind and even sometimes compares him to a bug. Despite the pretence, Saiki never says no to Nendou for anything and helps him occasionally.
4. Gintoki and Katsura (Gintama)
Katsura Kotarou and Sakata Gintoki are best friends in Gintama. Gintoki jokingly calls Katsura a funny nickname of Zura.
When Zura was presumed missing or dead, Gintoki was concerned but also had faith that Zura is alive. Gintoki and Katsura have known each other since they were kids and share the same teacher.
Throughout the series in Gintama, Gintoki and Katsura are always portrayed as comrades fighting for common goals. Their friendship is worth protecting and definitely melts our hearts.
3. Natsu and Gray (Fairy Tail)
Natsu Dragneel and Gray Fullbuster have been best friends since childhood. They are members of the Fairy Tail guild and equally fear Erza Scarlet. Natsu and Gray are friends and rivals who have a fight-love relationship.
They argue, they fight, and they make up. When Gray strayed off the right path (knowing the future), Natsu brought him back to Fairy Tail to prevent a disastrous future. Natsu and Gray’s friendship in Fairy Tail is one of the best things in the series. They count on each other and equally care about Erza Scarlet.
2. Hinata and Kageyama (Haikyuu)
Hinata Shoyo and Kageyama Tobio started with a hate-love relationship. They became friends and have a setter-blocker relationship besides being best friends. Hinata was the only person who never spoke ill of Kageyama and defended him in front of others.
Kageyama truly accepted and acknowledges Hinata as a rival and a pair he wants to set for the matches no matter who they are up against. They fight, motivate each other, and have the same brain wavelength. Hinata and Kageyama are rivals and best friends in Haikyuu.
1. Natsume and Nyanko Sensei (Natsume's Book of friends)
Natsume Takashi had a difficult childhood due to his parent's death. It was shortly after Natsume met Nyanko Sensei (Madara, Natsume’s life turned 180 degrees. Although Nyanko Sensi kept saying he wants to possess the Book of Friends and said he was Natsume’s master, he acts the opposite.
Any yokai who tried to harm him gets the worst when facing Nyanko sensei. Nyanko sensei is protective of Natsume and indulges Natsume’s actions to help others.
Natsume on the other hand genuinely treasures Nyanko sensei and often meets his demands. He even sacrificed himself when Nyanko sensei was in danger and got hurt in the process. Nyanko sensei and Natsume are best friends and even more.
