Sanada Shunpei is the ace pitcher of Yakushi High Baseball team. Not only a passionate pitcher but he is also a strong Batter of the team.
He is described by his teammates to be a cheerful and sociable person. We see him keeping Raichi in control and also supporting the entire team in an easy manner. Sanada is highly respected by his teammates and you can even say they are his fans.
He’s a cheerful and sociable person. And yet when he is on the mound… Anyway he is a reliable senpai.– Akiba
Sanada Shunpei Before and After
Earlier, Shunpei played baseball as leisure and to pass his high school time. He was not serious about baseball and used to spend his days skipping practices.
After Todoroki Raizou and Raichi joined the baseball team, Sanada still remained the same for some time. Gradually, however, the perspective of the entire team along with Sanada changed. They started taking baseball seriously and started to practice.
Sanada as well showed up to practice and began training as a pitcher again. However, due to previously skipping out practices and an increase in training, Shunpei suffered leg injuries. The sudden increase in practice also affected his stamina. He became incapable of holding his starting position or playing an entire match.
Unable to pitch an entire match, Shunpei filled in as a relief pitcher despite being the ace of the team. However, he committed himself more towards the team. Even as a relief pitcher Sanada was able to turn the match in the favor of Yakushi. He continued to train and recover from his injuries and lack of stamina to became the true “ace” of the team again.
Sanada Shunpei is a pitching-to-contact type of pitcher but on the offensive side. He throws aggressive inside pitches which reach a velocity of 140km/h. His pitches are so intense that it seems he is not afraid if the balls hit the batter. For the right-handed batter, he uses his sharp shuuto while for left-handed batters he uses cut fastballs.
Sanada has improved his shuuto by adopting a new pitching position. Standing close to first base, he can improve the power and angle of his shuuto which also makes batters concerned about the inside corners. As a result, the new pitching position allows Shunpei to strike out his opponents.
As we know his one weakness is his lack of stamina which, however, he has improved a lot. He pitched the entire match against Inajitsu during the Spring Tournament.
Another one of his weaknesses is that when pitching he becomes too focused on the batter that he does not notice the base steal. Often he ends up giving stolen bases.
