Itachi Uchiha is a prodigy and a genius from a very young age. Although most of the Uchihas are skilled and have a reputation as one the feared clans, Itachi was as gentle as they come and is one of the most well-developed characters in Naruto.
Not only was he a born genius and a complete gentleman, but he’s also always been a curious child and very different from the others. He graduated early from the academy and had teammates older than him. As a ninja, he was skilled in shuriken and fire-style Jutsu. Itachi had to make decisions that carried on as a burden for the rest of his life. Needless to say, those decisions gave him characteristics like no other anime character.
So, here are 7 reasons Itachi Uchiha is the most well-developed character in Naruto:
1. He is an Anti-Hero
Itachi’s an anti-hero. Up until the mid-seasons of Naruto Shippuden, Itachi is portrayed as the villain up until we get to know his story. Itachi sacrificed so much for the sake of the leaf village.
He saved the village from the shadows and always prioritized the leaf village. Even though he became part of the Akatsuki, he was in contact with the Third Hokage and always made sure Sasuke was safe. Although he used to carry out his missions in the Akatsuki his ultimate goal was to prevent a great disaster from happening.
2. His Death was an Upset
The death of a character is never easy… especially Itachi. If you’ve watched all 700 plus episodes, you know why. His true nature was hidden as per his wishes and the entire world thought he was better off dead.
Moreover, his death was more upsetting not only because he fought Sasuke to death or ran out of chakra, he was sick and no one really knew. Apart from that, Itachi had everyone fooled by acting as a double spy for the leaf village and the Akatsuki.
3. The Curse of Hatred
Being an Uchiha is not easy. You’re either dead or are in a state of despair that leads you to feel extreme emotions of hatred-like Sasuke. But there are few exceptions and Itachi is one of them.
Usually, strong emotions of love and hatred are directed towards other people. But, in Itachi’s case, his hate was directed towards himself. Self-loathing can be the greatest form of hatred. He couldn’t forgive himself for the mistakes and decisions he made in the past. Rest assured, he felt that death gave him some kind of solace. Let’s be real- a flawless character isn’t very interesting.
4. Hokage without being Hokage
Itachi was a smart guy. Before the Nine-Tails attacked the village, he knew that someone, especially an Uchiha was behind it. He knew that someone was able to sneak in and out of the village.
The Third Hokage himself said that Itachi thought like a Hokage would and at a very young age. While some of his decisions might’ve been on a selfish need, they worked out for the greater good in the end.
5. He was Overpowered
Throughout the series, it’s very evident that Itachi is very strong. Even when he was a child, he didn’t struggle with Ninjutsu, Taijutsu, or Genjutsu which is his strong suit. He always seemed like a mystery.
Apart from those skills, he can do hand signs with one hand. That requires a high level of skill. Furthermore, Itachi was a genius and could always predict the enemy's moves due to his Sharingan. The Sharingan is one of the most feared Dojutsus of Narutoverse. He also possessed the Mangekyo Sharingan and Amaterasu which was so deadly it could kill anything.
Kishimoto himself said that they had to kill Itachi since he was so overpowered.
6. Totsuka blade and Yata mirror
Naruto relies heavily on Japanese mythology. In it, the Totsuka blade and Yata mirror are possessed by the higher beings. Someone with an unbreakable spirit and could easily defeat an enemy.
Itachi did have an unbreakable spirit and he possessed the Totsuka blade and Yata mirror which was his trump card to defeat anyone- even Orochimaru. So, in case anyone wants to go against him- don’t.
7. His Foresight
If there’s one thing, we know about Itachi, it’s that he’s super smart and can defeat anyone. He was also always two steps ahead of everyone. From annihilating his clan to getting Sasuke to fight him to death- he planned everything- even his death.
For example, when he planted Shisui’s Kotoamatsukami so that he could counter Kabuto’s curse or when he placed Amaterasu to kill Tobi. He was always thinking ahead in order to save the village and the ninja world. Itachi himself has great potential to have his own series as the protagonist like Naruto.
